Caterpillar — a short introduction

Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines.

That couldn’t have been predicted when Caterpillar’s founding fathers Benjamin Holt and Daniel Best in 1891 started to produce steam tractors for use in farming.  Since then the company has expanded its product offer and geographical coverage and does today have factories all over the world.

Caterpillar distributes its products via a global network of dealers, which for the most part are independent and locally owned.  That secures a stabile and trustful relationship to the customers, many of which have used their local dealer for more than two generations.

Caterpillar dealers offer machines, services and financing to the customers in more than 200 countries.  More than 1 500 dealers offer rental services.
