GDF Suez started building its new production platform E17a-A in September 2008. Today the platform is about to be finished, and will be placed in the Dutch North Sea, more specifically in zone E17 (situated about 160 km north west of Den Helder).

Platform E17a-A will be used for the cleaning and drying of produced gas. The platform deck weighs around 1900 ton and it will produce approximately 2,8 million m3 gas per day. The platform has a surface of 22x26 meters and is 30 meters high, measured from the jacket onwards.

The platform contains a 10 person living quarters, generally it will be manned by only 2 persons. There are 5 decks, on the intermediate deck the power generation module is situated. The module has been designed such that a third generator can easily be installed. Equally convenient is the left open space on the main deck for a compression module, to be delivered later, when the pressure from the wells decreases.
