Pon Power deployed dual fuel for the first time in 2005. This technique uses both diesel and gas oil. The basis of this concept is fitting a diesel engine with a gas train so that either fuel can be used. You then have a great combination, the attractive pricing of gas oil and the reliability of a real diesel engine.
The Argonon is the first inlang barge with a duel fuel engine. This ship will be finished this fall.
Pon Power Dual Fuel application benefits
Reduction of emissions. Combusting of natural gas is clean with a significant reduction of CO2.
- Saves the remaining reserves of fossil fuels.
- Reduces fuel costs: the price of LNG is considerably less than diesel.
- Service intervals can be extended due to the cleaner combustion, which decreases the total cost of ownership.
Emission values
At the moment, we cannot say exactly what reductions can be achieved in terms of NO2, CO, CO2 and CH4. This will be possible affter the trials.
