Pon Power Scandinavia has introduced EGR retrofit in our product portfolio to reduce emissions. In forefront of the commercialization lies many hours of engineering and testings. With great success we have worked with Simon Møkster on an EGR pilot on their vessel M/S Strilmøy
After over 2000 hours of operation onboard Simon Møkster’s supply vessel M/S Strilmøy the conclusion from both the customer and the development team is that we now have a robust and safe product that can be installed onboard most ships sailing in Norwegian waters.
Tom Karlsen, Technical Manager of Simon Møkster explains:
“Environment and innovation have been bywords for the company for many years. The company also has a history of being among the pioneers in adopting new technology. This made it natural for us to participate in an EGR pilot project after we were approached by Pon Power in this connection.
The supply vessel M/S Strilmøy was chosen as the test ship. The vessel is equipped with four Cat 3516 engines and is actually one of our vessels that have the lowest NOx emissions per tonnes of bunkers. This made the pilot project additionally challenging.
The EGR system was installed on one of the vessel’s four engines. I should make it clear that the vessel was deployed in normal operations during the whole trial period - this was something that we had stipulated as a requirement. All the parties involved were fully aware that pilot projects in general represent unexplored territory. Naturally this meant that we had to resolve a number of challenges that arose along the way.
A good working atmosphere between Pon Power, Nymo AS and STT Emtec helped ensure that all challenges were resolved satisfactorily. Our crew on board also contributed actively to resolving challenges through the application of their knowledge of operating a modern offshore vessel. This added valuable knowledge to the project and resulted in a product that is well adapted to life on board.”
Our EGR solution gives around 35-45 % NOx reduction and is perfectly suitable as a retrofit solution since no major rebuild of the vessel is needed. It’s a relatively compact solution as to space requirements, it has low maintenance needs and does not require any additives.
