Pon Power Scandinavia is aware of the costs involved in long lead times for spare parts for our customers. For Maersk Master short lead times became crucial, when the vessel had a breakdown in one of its MaK 8M35 main engines in Brazil.
Maersk Master was build at Odense Steel Shipyard in April 1986. After 25 years of operation, the MaK 8M35 and Maersk Master depended on our rapid worldwide service concept.
"We know the costs that can be incurred by long lead times for spare parts", says Erik Hass, Commercial Manager for MaK at Pon Power Scandinavia.
Below is a rundown of the events and procedures that were set in motion in regards to the breakdown of Maersk Master:
· Within 24 hours, our Service Technician was on the Maersk Master
· Within 48 hours our Service Technician had an overview and the process of ordering the necessary parts had been set in motion
· Within 3 weeks all major parts – crankshaft, bedplate etc. – were on the Maersk Master
· In only 6 weeks the Maersk Master was ready to resume operations again
Each component in an MaK engine is designed and manufactured to achieve the highest possible durability and best possible availability of service.
Through a successful cooperation between A. P. Moeller Maersk, Pon Power Scandinavia and the MaK factories in Germany, the Maersk Master was back to normal operation within the shortes time frame possible.
‘It is always a pleasure to have a satisfied customer and I give great credit to the MaK factory in Kiel for their cooperation and high level of service’, ends Erik Hass.
