Essential constant power supply for modern fish farm in Norway

Pon Power is providing solutions for the aquaculture industry

Pon Power Scandinavia has recently installed 2 gensets (C-32 1100 KVa and 3512 1250 KVa, 400V) for the fish farm and hatchery, Alsaker Fjordbruk AS in Norway.
Both gensets are stand-by for the production of fry and fish to release - supplying power for re-circulation pumps, water temperature control and oxygen supply. The systems act as emergency power if the local power supply fails.

A New Rotor For T/S Gunilla

Extraordinary service from Caterpillar's warehouse in Belgium
Fredrik Jessing from the Swedish company add-maritime and the shipmanager of the Swedish vessel T/S Gunilla, has written a very interesting piece about his trip to the Caterpilllar's European Distribution Center in Grimbergen, Belgium in order to pick up a rotor - on a sunday!

T/S Gunilla
"Being a ship manager some days are not like others. The other weekend I got to do six European flights in less than two days.
...Disaster, the genset is not producing any power. … By lunch time next day we are sure we need a new rotor 4P3468...Sunday morning I am told that the only chance is to go to Grimbergen, talk to the guard and have him calling a Danish manager enabling the guard to release my spare.
...Right then, two other employees walk in wondering why I'm there on a Sunday during a power outage. After connecting them to my Danish contact, using a laptop to an off site server they believe they know where the part is located. Equipped with flash lights they head inside to find it. After 15 minutes they return with a small box of 17 kilos."

Grimbergen

Caterpillars European warehouse is located in Grimbergen, Belgium.
For the staff at Caterpillar's parts distribution center, thinking "right now" is the only way to think: "When a customer needs a part, they need it fast, so we move fast. It's our whole reason for being here," explains Sharon Craig, Parts Order Fulfillment Division Manager at Grimbergen, a part of Caterpillar Logistics Services.

Rapid Delivery of Spare Parts makes a difference

Maersk Master benefits from Pon Power's service
Pon Power Scandinavia is aware of the costs involved in long lead times for spare parts for our customers. For Maersk Master short lead times became crucial, when the vessel had a breakdown in one of its MaK 8M35 main engines in Brazil.
Maersk Master was build at Odense Steel Shipyard in April 1986. After 25 years of operation, the MaK 8M35 and Maersk Master depended on our rapid worldwide service concept.

Strengthening our MaK organization

We have been strenghtening our MaK organization as part of our continuing dedication to our customers.

These changes have been initiated as a way of giving our customers the most optimal experience. An all-inclusive experience where we are meticulously following a project from the beginning to its completion.

Investing resources from different departments, e.g. aftersales, prime and project development, is helping to ensure that very few unforseen occourances will happen during a project.

Using long-term planning of service intervals we are able to offer very competitive prices. With this we are also making sure that we stay within budget and follow the agreements made to the letter.

In our view, having a strategically well-placed network of service facilities is essential in our markets. We are convinced that we are substantially boosting our service concept whit initiatives such opening our new facilities at Lindø Industrial Park.

Nor-Shipping 2011

In May 2011 we were at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Lillestrøm in Norway which we hope you had a chance to visit.

We always appreciate the opportunities an exhibition gives us to interact with our customers. We always hope that you also find it interesting to visit our exhibition stands.

We are already exited and a looking forward to welcoming you to our stand at coming exhibtions.
Following this link you will be able to look at a few more pictures from our stand at Nor-Shipping 2011.

Pon Power Scandinavia will supply engines for the new Siemens BLUEDRIVE PlusC™

A specially modified propulsion package to be used in a new offshore supply vessel for the Norwegian shipping company Østensjø Rederi.

Siemens and Østensjø approached Pon Power Scandinavia with an enquiry of supplying engines for the new and innovative propulsion system BLUEDRIVE PlusC™. The main objective for this project was a reduction in fuel consumption and operation of an SCR catalyst over the load range of 10-100 %. The goal is to have a significant reduction of environmental emissions, both NOx and CO2.

Along with the MaK factories in Germany we have modified two MaK 6M25C and two MaK 9M25C propulsion engines to function with the new Siemens floating frequency concept, developed specifically for this project for Østensjø Rederi.

Reduction of exhaust emission for Industrial Off Road Engines

January 1st 2011, new emissions legislation has turned into effect in Europe and North America for Industrial Off Road Engines above 130 kW.

Once again exhaust emissions are radically reduced. A necessity to comply with this legislation is engine exhaust after treatment. Compared to previous Tier 3/Stage IIIA levels, the new Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB standards require a 90 percent reduction in PM and a 50 percent decrease in NOx.

CONVERT YOUR EXISTING NATURAL GAS ENGINE TO THE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY BIOGAS

All installations running on natural gasses of the type Cat G3508, G3512 and G3516 can with great advantages be converted into running on biogas.

Biogas is produced through the natural anaerobic decomposition or fermentation of organic waste. In a typical biogas farm, an organic fertilizer tank is used to store the manure generated by the livestock.

Instead of releasing the methane generated by the decomposition of this manure into the atmosphere, it can be extracted and used to fuel a gas engine to produce electricity.

Biogas is good for the environment because it is Co2 neutral making it one great renewable resource compared to fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gasses.

EGR – NOx REDUCING TECHNOLOGY

Pon Power Scandinavia has introduced EGR retrofit in our product portfolio to reduce emissions. In forefront of the commercialization lies many hours of engineering and testings.
With great success we have worked with Simon Møkster on an EGR pilot on their vessel M/S Strilmøy

After over 2000 hours of operation onboard Simon Møkster’s supply vessel M/S Strilmøy the conclusion from both the customer and the development team is that we now have a robust and safe product that can be installed onboard most ships sailing in Norwegian waters.

PON POWER SCANDINAVIA LEADING THE WAY WITH SUPER SILENT GENSETS FOR TAIWANESE OCEANOGRAPHY RESEARCH VESSEL

Cat 3512C Genset For Taiwanese Research Vessel

One of the main requirements of an oceanography research vessel is to be able to operate with a minimum of underwater noise, i.e. as silent and free of vibrations as possible.

Pon Power Scandinavia was as a subcontractor to Siemens involved in the development of a groundbreaking new genset for a Taiwanese research vessel.

Jeanette Jonasson from Pon Power Scandinavia was appointed project manager, and she became involved in the project from the very beginning. Along with representatives from Siemens she went to Taiwan to negotiate the terms of the project, and establish how the R&D could move the project ahead. The team from Pon Power Scandinavia also consisted of Kristian Weibust and Paul Stebbings.

Early on in the project Jerry Vietinghof, from the American company Oriantek, and Patrick Bergin from the British company Christie & Grey got involved and all the calculations got underway.

The culmination was a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the Cat 3512C genset which was conducted on July 1st 2010.

Reduce vibrations with new technology
GenFlex frames for gensets

After years of product development, we can provide GenFlex. GenFlex is a frame, that will reduce vibrations from generator sets, and it is designed to isolate engine vibration away from the frame and foundation.

Advantages:

  • Lower vibration levels on the the generator will maintain longer service intervals and eliminate resonances.
  • Better predictability for maintenance cost.
  • Increased security for long term operation - less risk of downtime and increased comfort on board.
