Pon Power has signed a contract for the delivery of main engines for two ships for Olympic. The ships will be built at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard in Shenzhen. The delivery includes 2 x Cat 3516E and 3 x Cat 3512E Variable Speed Generator Sets.
Pon Power’s variable speed generator sets will contribute to reduced fuel consumption, lower noise levels, longer intervals between overhauls, increased generator lifespan, and generally lower operating costs.
In planning the two vessels, Olympic had two main goals: They should be the world’s most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly vessels in their category, and they should be versatile and flexible in use. The ships are UT7623 SEV (Sustainable Energy Vessel) designed by Kongsberg Maritime in close collaboration with Olympic, where Pon Power has contributed with our expertise in engine optimization. The engine package being delivered is chosen in direct collaboration with Olympic to provide maximum flexibility and the best possible fuel economy. The engines are also ready for future conversion to new fuels such as Methanol to further reduce the carbon footprint of the vessel’s operation.
“We are proud and grateful for the trust Olympic and CMHI have shown us. Now, the full focus will be on delivering the project with the quality the customer expects and Pon Power is known for,” says Bernt Eidsvik, Sales Manager at Pon Power AS
